Peter Craft is a recording engineer, mixer and producer with over 20 years of music production experience. He owns and runs Boxer Lodge, a recording studio in the hills above Napa Valley.
<<REWIND
A lifelong drummer, Peter created the first Boxer Lodge in the garage of a Victorian house in San Francisco in the late 1990s. It was a modest studio with a tiny live room and an even tinier control room, but it allowed him to record a slew of records and hone his skills. It wasn’t long before he outgrew that first studio, and began dreaming of the next big thing.
He envisioned a place where artists could wake up, grab a cup of coffee, walk in and start recording in a fully equipped space dedicated entirely to them – without the pressure of time slots and ticking clocks. That vision became a reality in the hills above Napa Valley, where –working with a contractor who built studios for Phil Lesh and Boz Scaggs—he constructed a 437-square-foot live room with vaulted ceilings, a dedicated control room and wiring to overflow into the main house for additional tracking and isolation possibilities.
The new and improved Boxer Lodge opened in 2019, and word quickly spread among artists in the Bay Area and beyond. In just a few short years, a community of musicians and songwriters has formed, with this studio as its clubhouse and creative crucible. Peter has studied with Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, Portishead, Florence + The Machine) and Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Beyonce, SZA, Kacie Musgrave), and has outfitted Boxer Lodge with a wide range of instruments and gear, both vintage and modern, analog and digital.
